Softball Coach Chris Barnhill was named Assistant Athletic Coordinator of the Year for 2016-2017 on Tuesday by the Central Athletic Staff at Dallas ISD. Barnhill was chosen from among the coordinators at the 22 high schools in Dallas ISD.
“Shocked and humble,” Barnhill said of the award. “When Gil [Garza] got up to announce it, the last thing on my mind was that I was going to get it.”
Barnhill has been the North Dallas softball coach for eight years, and has served as the assistant athletic coordinator for four year. His duties include taking care of the letterman jackets, checking grades, admin coverage at the games and coaching the softball team. Last year, he coached two sports, swimming and softball.
“It’s a great honor. There are many quality coaches in this district that serve in that position,” said Brian Barnett, North Dallas athletic coordinator. “To receive this honor is a testament to the excellence and consistency in which Coach Barnhill carries out in regard his responsibilities. He’s done it for a long time and it is nice to see his efforts be recognized and awarded.”
Barnhill said he asked about the nomination and was told that the Central athletic staff does the nominating, which means the staff is watching. Also, it means Barnhill’s hard work at the school and with the students has paid off.
