Gil Garza, the Dallas ISD director of athletics, attended the North Dallas Bulldogs’ game against the Spruce Timberwolves on Sept. 7.
Garza, who joined DISD in August 2014, supervises 22 high schools and 32 middle schools. Born and raised in Edinburg, Garza has more than 42 years of coaching and athletic leadership. A former head football and baseball coach, Garza has also served as athletic director for both Edcouch-Elsa ISD, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD and San Antonio ISD. He has also been elected to various state boards. He was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association Hall of Honor in 2012.
