North Dallas High band director Jesse Warmanen is very pleased with the results from the recent Pre-UIL competition on April 3 at Adamson High School.
‘We (the band) were very pleased with our scores at Pre-UIL and earning a second division,” Warmanen said in an email. “We are consistently showing growth at the Concert contest, and our scores improved quite a bit from the fall Marching contest as well.
“We do have plenty of work to do to attain a top rating, which we are seeking at UIL, and we have three class periods left in which to get there. The students have been working very hard to raise our level of performance and I hope that we can continue to see positive results for their hard work.”
The band will participate in the UIL competition on Thursday, April 19, at Waxahachie High School.
“We are performing ‘Champions of Freedom March’ by Ken Harris, ‘Connemara Sketches’ by Chester Osborne and ‘Shepherd’s Hey’ arranged by Patrick Roszell,” Warmanen said. “There is also a sight-reading portion taking place after our concert performance.”
Warmanen said the UIL competition is open to the public but it is held on a school campus during the school day so attendees will have to check in at the front office of WHS to comply with their security requirements.
Warmanen said the band’s Spring concert is currently scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on May 17.
