Boys Varsity Football · North Dallas Coach Estes has confidence in his Bulldogs: ‘We do have the ability to play with people.’

DayShawn Rivers rushed for 112 yards against Carter last week.

North Dallas head Coach Bobby Estes’ main goal is preparing the Bulldogs for the next game. He doesn’t worry about the other team.

“If you do your job, with determination and great effort, then we’re going to be successful,” he said this week, “and it doesn’t matter who we line up against. We can’t worry about the other team. We have to worry about us.”

The Bulldogs take on Wilmer-Hutchins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Franklin Stadium in the Homecoming game. The Homecoming court winners will be announced at halftime.

Coach Estes is trying to instill confidence in his Bulldogs: They need to believe they can compete.

“Half of football is confidence. If you don’t get off the bus with it, it’s hard to manufacture,” Coach Estes said. “That’s one of the things we’re trying to build this year. We do have the ability to play with people.”

The Bulldogs displayed that confidence when they matched Carter touchdown for touchdown early in last week’s game.

“When we tied them 14-14, I think our kids had that,” Estes said. “Hey, we can play with these kids. They’re not superstars, they’re not superheroes, they’re in our league, but then we didn’t hold on to it. We didn’t come out after halftime with the energy that we needed. If we would’ve scored on that last drive, it might’ve been a little different.

“We have to raise our expectations. And the only group to change that is us.”

The Bulldogs’ defense battled against Carter.

Coach Estes said the Bulldogs came to practice this week with a “sense of purpose.”

” I feel really good about that,” he said. “They know that if they play up to our expectations, they’ll be successful.”

With Wilmer-Hutchins next on the schedule, Estes points to last season’s game.

“Last year, we played Wilmer-Hutchisns hard,” he said. “We ended the season last year kinda on a high because those last three games we really competed, and that’s what we’re looking for right now.”
