North Dallas Coach Steven De La Cerda enters the 2021 baseball season with a very young team. How young are they?

“This is the youngest team I’ve ever coached here,” De La Cerda said in an email.

But Coach De La Cerda, who has led the Bulldogs to district titles in Class 5A in 2018 and Class 4A in 2019, still expects a successful season.

“Our expectations have not and will not change,” Coach De La Cerda continued. “We expect to out-work our opponents, be mentally tough, and have a high baseball IQ. We feel that if we can do those things well, we have a chance to be successful. Due to our youth, we may take some light bumps here and there, but as the season goes on, we expect our boys to find their rhythm and compete at a high level.”

The Bulldogs are scheduled to open the season with scrimmages. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Princeton, and then at 6 p.m. Friday at R.L. Turner.

The varsity and junior varsity schedule is still being finalized, De La Cerda said.

“We are very intentional with who we schedule and respect every opponent we play,” the North Dallas coach said. “It is my hope that we are getting better each day and I know that our opponents will make us better for it.  I like the competition we will see this year and look forward to an exciting season.”
